Shooting Possums from the Back Porch of Roger’s Bar

The bones in the possum’s hand
are a set of reduction gears
turning in a machine that brings light
to this valley of burnt oil and narrow rivers,

my favorite drunks, a few chairs away, laughing hard,
forming a theory of everything.
