Stray and God of War Ragnarök Lead Nominations at BAFTA Games Awards

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has announced the nominations for its 2023 Games Awards, with Stray and God of War Ragnarök leading the pack.

This marks the 19th year that Bafta has recognized the gaming industry’s accomplishments with an awards ceremony, which will be held on March 30th.


Sony’s PlayStation 5 heavyweights God of War Ragnarök and Horizon Forbidden West are prominently featured, with 5 and 14 nominations, respectively.

Stray, a French game featuring a cat trapped in an underground robot community, is up for nine awards, while FromSoftware’s open-world masterpiece Elden Ring, which has sold 20 million copies, is up for eight.

Tunic, a tribute to classic adventure games, has a chance at five awards.

In total, 45 games have been acknowledged across all award categories, many of which are debut games from developers who have not been nominated before.

God of War Ragnarök is up for Best Game, Artistic Achievement, Audio Achievement, Game Design, Narrative, and other categories.

Stray: The New Sensation in the Gaming Industry

The game follows the adventures of Kratos and his son Atreus as they journey through the world of Norse mythology.

Other Notable Nominations

In addition to Stray and God of War Ragnarök, several other games received multiple nominations.

Deathloop, the first-person shooter developed by Arkane Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks, received six nominations.

Life is Strange: True Colors, the narrative adventure game developed by Deck Nine and published by Square Enix, received four nominations, including Original Property, Performer in a Leading Role for the voice of Alex, and others.

The Best Game Award

The coveted Best Game award will go to one of the following:

  • God of War, a high-octane action game;
  • Surprise Australian hit Cult of the Lamb;
  • Compulsive card-battling game Marvel Snap;
  • The expansive and bleak Elden Ring;
  • Cyberpunk cat adventure Stray;
  • Vampire Survivors, an arcade shooter created by first-time game developer Luca Galante.
