On April 12, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) certified Lady Gaga’s debut single “Just Dance” as Diamond, marking 10,000,000 units sold.

The announcement came shortly after the 15th anniversary of the hit song featuring Colby O’Donis.

This achievement makes Lady Gaga the first woman to receive the RIAA’s Digital Diamond Award, as “Just Dance” joins her other Diamond-certified tracks, “Bad Romance” and “Poker Face.”

Chart-topping Success

Originally released as the lead single from Gaga’s debut album, The Fame, “Just Dance” climbed to the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 in winter 2009.

It spent three weeks at the top, becoming the first of Gaga’s five No. 1 hits, alongside “Poker Face,” “Born This Way,” “Shallow” (with Bradley Cooper), and “Rain on Me” (with Ariana Grande).

The Fame also holds the record for the most non-consecutive weeks at No. 1 in Billboard’s Dance/Electronic Albums chart history, with 175 weeks.

Celebrating the Moment

In honor of this milestone, Lady Gaga has re-released limited-edition merchandise from all her past album eras, including The Fame Monster (2009), Born This Way (2011), Artpop (2013), Joanne (2016), and Chromatica (2020).

Select pieces dedicated to Love for Sale (2021), her collaborative LP with Tony Bennett, and her contribution to the Top Gun: Maverick soundtrack are also available.

Fans can purchase the merchandise on the singer’s official website.

This achievement makes Lady Gaga the first woman to receive the RIAA’s Digital Diamond Award, as “Just Dance” joins her other Diamond-certified tracks, “Bad Romance” and “Poker Face.”

Other Diamond-certified Artists

Gaga shares the spotlight with Katy Perry and Cardi B as they hold the record for the most diamond-certified songs by a female artist, with three each.

Overall, only a little over a hundred songs have achieved diamond certification, with Bruno Mars holding the record for the most diamond-certified singles (six) and Drake, Post Malone, and The Weeknd tied for second place with five each.

Lady Gaga’s Continuing Success

Apart from her musical achievements, Lady Gaga recently completed filming for the upcoming movie Joker: Folie à Deux.

Directed by Todd Phillips, the crime caper serves as a sequel to the 2019 film Joker and features Gaga portraying Harley Quinn alongside Joaquin Phoenix as Gotham City’s infamous villain.

A Lasting Legacy

Lady Gaga’s “Just Dance” was written in a mere ten minutes and initially gained popularity on the dance music charts before reaching the No. 1 spot on the Hot 100, where it remained for nearly an entire year.

The song’s Diamond certification and continued success illustrate the enduring impact of Gaga’s music on the industry and fans alike.
