Florence and the Machine have released a new single, "Mermaids," as part of their Dance Fever universe, featuring a darkly layered pop tune with a propulsive synth beat.
The band teased the new song on Instagram with several posts, including one of Florence Welch in a bathtub wearing a mermaid tail and vampire teeth.
"Mermaids" is featured in a newly released deluxe edition of Dance Fever, and was written and produced by Welch and Dave Bayley.
Florence and the Machine recently collaborated with Ethel Cain on a new rendition of "Morning Elvis," and shared a cover of No Doubt's "I'm Just a Girl" for the soundtrack of Showtime's Yellowjackets.
The band's music has been featured in various soundtracks, and while some fans have speculated about "Mermaids" being related to the upcoming Little Mermaid, it's clear that Welch has had a long-standing fascination with mermaids.

A series of posts revealed edited-together clips from mermaid-themed horror films, the single’s artwork, and a video of Welch lip-syncing to the single’s lyrics in front of an English gray and green backdrop.

Welch expressed her excitement in reinterpreting the song in a “deeply unsettling” way for the show, adding horror elements to fit the tone of the series.
Florence and the Machine’s music has been featured in various soundtracks, including their iconic 2009 hit “Dog Days Are Over” being used for the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
