Blink-182 fans were in for a treat as the band’s reunion tour started earlier than anticipated. Tom DeLonge, Mark Hoppus, and Travis Barker reunited for a surprise performance at Coachella on Friday, April 14.

This marked the first time the trio has played together in nearly a decade.

The band’s reunion was initially scheduled for last month in South America but was postponed due to Barker’s hand injury.

Coachella Announcement

The surprise performance was casually announced on Coachella’s official social media account, with the caption “Take off your pants and jacket,” referring to the band’s 2001 album.

The post revealed that Blink-182 would play at 6:45 p.m. PT on the Sahara stage. Fans were excited to see the band listed in the lineup, and the band members also shared the news on their social media accounts.

There is no information yet on whether the band will also play during the second weekend of the festival.

Live Stream for Fans

Those unable to attend the festival in Indio, California, had the opportunity to watch the performance via live stream.

This marked the first time DeLonge, Hoppus, and Barker have performed together since DeLonge left the band in 2015 to focus on other projects, including studying UFOs, writing novels, directing movies, and recording music with his band, Angels and Airwaves.

Matt Skiba of Alkaline Trio replaced DeLonge and recorded several albums with Blink-182 before the reunion.

Overcoming Obstacles

Blink-182 has faced a series of challenges in recent years. Hoppus was diagnosed with stage IV diffuse large B-cell lymphoma in 2021 but confirmed he was cancer-free later that year.

Meanwhile, the band’s reunion tour was delayed when Barker needed surgery after injuring his hand twice during rehearsal.

Excitement and Relief

Hoppus shared his excitement about the reunion and the relief of finally revealing the news during his Apple Music Radio show.

He recounted a story of a fan at a Dodgers game asking him about the possibility of a Blink-182 reunion tour with DeLonge, and Hoppus struggled to keep the secret.

He also shared that all three band members are “on a good page” and looking forward to playing in places they’ve never been before.

With their reunion tour now underway, Blink-182 is ready to bring their iconic sound to fans worldwide.
