Chlöe Bailey, the rising R&B star, has addressed the criticism over her collaboration with the controversial singer, Chris Brown, on the single “How Does It Feel.”

In an interview with Audacy’s V-103 podcast, Bailey dismissed the negative reactions, saying it should be about the music.

“I always just wanna let the music speak for itself,” Bailey said. “And to be honest, no matter what I do, people always find things to say about it, so I’m used to it. I just choose to ignore it. People have every right to their opinions, freedom of speech, and it’s up to me to choose what I give my attention and energy to.”

Bailey’s Journey in the Spotlight

Regarding her journey in the spotlight, Bailey added, “Everything I’m doing is ordained by God, and I’m walking in my purpose, and anybody who has a problem with that can kiss my booty.”

She released “How Does It Feel” in February along with a music video, which received backlash for her decision to work with Brown.

Bailey’s album, In Pieces, was released at the end of March, and she has tried to steer clear of the conversation in interviews, repeating her sentiment to “let the music speak for itself.”

In Pieces: Collaborations and Vulnerability

In Pieces features collaborations with Missy Elliott (“Told Ya”) and Future (“Cheatback”). Bailey opened up about her vulnerability on this album, saying, “I have been the rawest, the most vulnerable, and the most open I have been in my entire life with this album.”

She added that she once believed her unconditional love was a curse, but has now realized it is her greatest gift.

First Solo Headlining Tour

Bailey is set to embark on her first-ever headlining tour as a solo artist, supporting her new album.

The tour runs from April to May and includes stops in major North American cities such as Chicago, New York, Toronto, and Los Angeles.

Controversy with Chris Brown

Critics of the collaboration took issue with Bailey working with Brown, who has a well-documented history of violence against women, dating back to his 2009 assault on then-girlfriend Rihanna.

Brown has faced numerous allegations of violence, aggression, and probation violations from 2009 to as recently as 2021, but has continued to maintain a successful career in the music industry.

Addressing the Critics

Despite the criticism, Bailey remains focused on her music and expressing gratitude to her fans.

“I have the best fans in the world,” she said. “Without them, I wouldn’t be here. I want to make them happy, and I just let the music speak for itself.

Like in regular life, I have to use music to articulate things that I can’t verbally.”

As Bailey continues to rise in the music industry, she navigates both the support of her fans and the criticism of her choices.
