TRON: Catalyst, the upcoming isometric action-adventure game developed by Bithell Games and published by Big Fan Games, will launch on June 17, 2025.
The game will be available via Steam on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
The release date was revealed during the ID@Xbox Showcase, where a new trailer gave fans a closer look at the game’s mechanics, setting, and characters.
TRON: Catalyst follows the release of TRON: Identity (2023) but introduces real-time action gameplay instead of a visual novel format.
The game takes place in the Arq Grid, a digital city experiencing system failures and instability.
Players control Exo, a program that unexpectedly gains a time-based ability known as “The Glitch” after a mysterious package explodes.
This power lets her rewind time and replay events, which helps her solve puzzles, escape danger, and uncover hidden information.
As the Arq Grid keeps falling apart, buildings collapse, systems shut down, and the city becomes more dangerous.
At the same time, CORE, a powerful organization, is trying to capture Exo and take control of her abilities.
The biggest threat she faces is Conn, a powerful enforcer working for CORE, whose mission is to stop Exo before she discovers too much about what is really happening.
As Exo makes her way through the Grid, she will come across different factions, each with their own motives.
Some may offer their help, while others may see her as a problem that needs to be eliminated.
Every decision she makes could change the course of her journey and what kind of allies or enemies she gains along the way.
The game uses a real-time combat system, meaning players will need to react quickly and make smart decisions during fights.
As Exo, players will use her Identity Disc as both a weapon and a tool, throwing it at enemies or using it for close-range melee attacks.
To stay in control of the fight, players can attack, block incoming strikes, dodge out of danger, and counter enemy moves.
As the game progresses, Exo can upgrade her abilities, improving her Disc throws, melee combos, and defensive moves like well-timed parries to make combat smoother and more effective.
One of the game’s most important mechanics is the time-loop system, which lets players rewind time and replay battles to try different strategies.
If a fight doesn’t go as planned, players can use this ability to learn enemy attack patterns, avoid mistakes, and improve their approach.
The game also brings back Light Cycles, adding fast-paced chases where Exo must speed through the Arq Grid, dodge obstacles, and escape from enemies.
These sequences require quick reactions, as players will have to swerve around barriers, hit boost pads at the right time, and find the best routes through the city.
Exploration is another major part of the game, and Exo’s time-rewinding ability helps her open paths, access hidden areas, and solve puzzles that wouldn’t be possible otherwise.
Since the Arq Grid is unstable, some locations will shift, reset, or even disappear, meaning players must adapt and use time loops carefully to move through the changing environment.
The game stays true to TRON’s well-known digital style, with neon-lit cities, glowing pathways, and sleek futuristic designs that feel like they belong in the world of TRON.
The Arq Grid is made up of two types of areas—some are stable and controlled by powerful groups, while others are unstable and breaking apart due to system glitches.
In the stable zones, everything runs smoothly, with clean, polished buildings and high-tech security systems keeping order.
On the other hand, unstable areas are unpredictable, with structures flickering, platforms disappearing, and digital pathways shifting as the system malfunctions.
As Exo moves through the city, the world around her constantly changes, and in some places, entire sections of the environment may collapse or reset without warning.
The soundtrack, created by Dan Le Sac, uses electronic beats and synthesizer sounds to match the fast-paced, high-tech feel of the game.
During fights, the music becomes more intense, with heavier bass and faster rhythms, while in moments of exploration, it shifts to softer, atmospheric sounds that create a sense of mystery.
The game also includes detailed sound effects that react to the world, such as glitches causing distorted audio, digital echoes in open areas, and the hum of energy flowing through the city’s circuits.
Even though TRON: Catalyst comes after TRON: Identity, it tells a completely new story, so players do not need to know the previous game to understand what is happening.
The game introduces new characters, locations, and conflicts while still focusing on familiar TRON themes like power struggles, digital identity, and the dangers of a system losing control.
